About the Czech language and culture
Czech or čeština is the official language of the Czech Republic. Spoken natively by approximately 10.7 million people.
A language that introduced the word “robot” to our world, the Czech language is happy with using only consonants to formulate many of its words. We are quickly approaching Christmas Eve, and that means that Czech speaking children will be eagerly listening for the beautiful sound of the bells that ring after dinner to announce that Ježíšek or the “Little Jesus” has left his presents for them under the tree. If one is single on Christmas Day they can try their luck by throwing their shoes over their shoulder, for Czech legend has it that if the toe of the shoe is pointed at the door, the individual will be married soon. If you have not had the chance to listen to a little music today, here is your chance to hear something truly ethereal. Dvořák’s aria, Song to the Moon from Rusalka is promised to make an unforgettable imprint on this cold December day.
