Some interesting tidbits about the English language:

Spoken natively by approximately 400 million people and spoken at least a little by 1/4 of the world's population, English is truly the world's lingua franca.
English is the official primary language of the countries listed, here: United Kingdom, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Fiji, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago.

With over 4000 new words added to its dictionary each year, English is truly the world’s lingua franca. It is an official language in 67 countries, 28 of which we have listed above, where English is the official primary language.

English is definitely the one thing you can have RELIANCE on to have a SUCCESSFUL trip to the market and not to OVERPAY for the UNRIVALED but otherwise CHEAP local TRADITIONAL FARMHOUSE eggs, that the GENEROUS MANAGER is offering you at his stand. That is exactly 9 out of the 1700 English words we get to thank Mr. William Shakespeare for. Born in England in the year of 1564, Shakespeare, one of the most prominent and celebrated playwrights of all time is truly the king of drama. His 39 plays include comedies such as, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, his tragedies, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Othello and his histories, Henry V and Richard III, plays that even in this moment. While Shakespeare is a significant part of the language itself, his plays and sonnets are not the only reason why ¼ of the world’s population speaks at least some English today.

Austen, Dickens, the Brontë sisters, Twain, Tolkien and Christie have all had an extraordinary impact on world literature. With over 500 million copies sold however, the book series written by J.K. Rowling, made her one the most influential literary women in history and made its adapted namesake film series, the third highest grossing film series of all time after Marvel and Star Wars. The story of Harry, Ron and Hermione is indeed the best-selling book series in history. The films, made by American company, the Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. followed the success of silver screen masterpieces such as Casablanca, An American in Paris, Ben-Hur, and television shows like Friends or Gilmore Girls.
Not only are we thankful to the English speaking world for the first motion picture showings open to the public, light bulbs, chocolate chip cookies, Wi-Fi, or the microwave but for making our busy weekdays a little brighter, by providing entertainment in our living rooms at a push of a button through online streaming services.
