About Finnish Language and Culture

Finnish or suomen kieli is the official language of Finland along with Swedish. Spoken natively by approximately 5 million people.

A language that introduced the world to the word “sauna”, the Finnish speaking region has kept its number one ranking on the World Happiness Report for many consecutive years now. While people often associate Finnish with the Scandinavian, also known as North Germanic languages, like Hungarian it is actually part of the Uralic language family…and yes, Name day celebrations are just as important in Finland as they are in Hungary.

In fact festivities are so important that children usually have two birthday parties, one for friends and one for family. Speaking of fun and games, the magical world of the brilliant Angry Birds franchise, and believe it or not, the Finnish Nokia telecommunications’ Snake mobile game were all created in Finnish masterminds. You can bet that Santa is already busy checking his famous list twice in Lapland. Father Christmas actually left us a couple video messages from his home in Rovaniemi, so why don’t you head over to Santa Claus Village website or to the official Santatelevision YouTube channel to see how Santa Claus is preparing for the holidays.
